Ireland is mourning the loss of the great Gerry Ryan. The most famous man in our small land. He was an amazing radio broadcaster who brought so much fun, laughter, compassion, empathy to the people of Ireland every morning.
My heart goes out to his children, wife, family and friends. My deepest condolences to them all.
I can only imagine the loss you are suffering.
Personally, I can't believe he is gone. I am so sad. Each morning he made me laugh, think and sometimes cry. He was a magical story teller who brought us, his listeners, with him on his adventures. He shared his family life with us so generously. He wasn't perfect and never pretended to be either. He touched the lives of loads of us. If you were pissed off about anything it wouldn't be uncommon for people to say "Give Gerry a ring"
He was one funny fucker and people would be taking for days about the topics on the Gerry Ryan Show.
His funeral was streamed live on the RTE website and I watch as much as is possible, with a very chatty 2yr old, who kept saying "Who's Gerry Ryan?" "Is Gerry dead?", "Is he gone to Heaven to Grandad?", "Why are you crying Mammy?" about 200 times!
Gerry, may you rest in peace. Thank you for being you. I will miss you a lot.

I felt the loss even over here in Australia. It is amazing how many of my Irish friends had emailed me overnight so I woke to the news over here. Very very sad.
